Making A Video
on a Shoestring Budget
on a Shoestring Budget
How do you make an eye catching, heart stopping, professional looking video for… oh, let’s say, ten dollars? You call your preacher of course! That’s what I did. Not because I needed spiritual guidance, but because our preacher was Max Chance and he has a passion for moviemaking. When we put our heads together the outcome is usually spectacular! I am so proud of the hard work we did together, along with a lot of family and friends, creating this cutting edge (and may I mention award winning) book trailer. Did we spend ten dollars? No, we only spent seven dollars.
Interesting Facts:
1. We shot the entire footage at our house and church building, using homemade props and a borrowed fog machine.
2. The “Mother Mary Like” character throughout the film is Nicole Chance. Yes, she is the preacher’s wife.
3. The “dark angel” scaring the holy bejeebees out of you? Well, that’s our son Joe Weiss, wearing a Halloween costume and balancing on his tip-toes over and over, just to get the right shot.
4. Who is the poor guy lying on the floor and getting a sheet pulled over his head? It’s our dear friend Bill Teabo, being patient almost falling asleep while he waited for the lighting to be perfect.
5. Who is the cute guy in the rocking chair you ask? Keep your hands and heart away from that guy, because it’s my sweet hubby, Joseph, showing off his academy award winning skills.
6. Yes, that is me singing the song, this i know. I have been told it sounds like an old woman singing on her back porch with honeysuckles braided in her hair. I am going to take that as a compliment since the last time anyone commented on my singing ability it was my daddy saying I couldn’t carry a tune in a five gallon bucket. Anyway, for those of you who have asked, this i know is available on iTunes, so go download it now.
7. I want to shout out a big thank you to everyone who helped with the trailer: John, Dawn, Max, Nicole, Joseph, Greg, Erica, Kylie, Joe, Atticus, Naomi, Bob, Fumi, Bill and Sondra.
8. Finally, more about Max and what he loves to do. He is passionate about preaching, he is passionate about making movies and directing, and he is passionate about life! If you want to hire him to write a screenplay, direct a film (short or long), produce a film, teach a workshop on marriage, or make a trailer, you can email me your information (our contact page) and I will pass on the message. If you want to hear him preach, well you have to visit a tiny little country church on the North Fork of Long Island for that.
